Binance Smart Chain to Activate Chapel Testnet, Rialto to Be Destroyed

In a bid to launch a decentralized chain that is fully compatible with Ethereum running in parallel with the Binance Chain, Binance has today announced the Chapel test network for the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) to replace Rialto, a testnet which was launched in May as per July 6, 2020 update.

The Chapel Test Network to Replace Rialto

Consequently, the Rialto test network will be destroyed. The exchange is now urging users to back up any important data in readiness to their migration to the Chapel test network. Two test network chains will be released on July 9, 2020, but users will be barred access until after both test networks are thoroughly tested. 

In updating the Binance Smart Chain, the Chapel test network will replace Rialto while the Ganges will substitute the Kongo test network in the Binance Chain. 

For the avoidance of doubt, the Binance Chain was in part designed to run the Binance DEX while the BSC introduces programmability, enabling the creation of a dApp ecosystem. It runs in parallel with the Binance Chain and is a fork of go-Ethereum.

The Chapel test network will introduce new features such as atomic swaps for BEP8 tokens, the binding/transfer/unbinding of BEP8 tokens across chains, the unbinding of BEP2 and BEP8 tokens on-chain and between any two chains, and improvement in cross-chain communications for better error handling and better scalability.

Additions Being Made in the Binance Smart Chain 

However, a noteworthy improvement is the introduction of Different Expiration span in Binance DEX as proposed under BEP-67 which advocates for better governance. 

As Binance states, changes were made such that “a proposal-vote process based on the staking of validators and delegators will decide global parameters of BSC: cross-chain transfer fee, relayer fee, pool fund, etc,” and “new parameter values will be picked up by corresponding system contracts via cross-chain communication when needed.”

The Chapel testnet is part of Binance’s quest to not only adhere to their roadmap but to beef up Binance Smart Chain’s security. Before the launch of the Binance Smart Chain mainnet in Q3 2020, two more test networks (Danube and Millau) will be activated in August.

The Rialto testnet brought Ethereum’s programmability and interoperability to the Binance Chain and was Binance’s first attempt to run a parallel chain with seamless inter-chain communication between the Binance Smart Chain and the Binance Chain. 

BTCManager has also reported that Binance will support Ontology Network’s upcoming upgrade.
