Algorand Foundation announces ‘Build-A-Bull’ hackathon in collaboration with AWS

The Algorand Foundation, the organization focused on growing the Algorand ecosystem, has announced the opening of registration for Build-A-Bull, a global virtual hackathon with $200,000 in prizes.

The hackathon, hosted by Algorand Ventures in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), will take place from Oct. 18 to Nov. 15, 2023. Registration is free and open to everyone.

Build-A-Bull is a hackathon focused on creating user-friendly applications using the Algorand blockchain’s power and scalability. This four-week event provides developers and entrepreneurs with the opportunity to conceive a business idea, expedite its development, and present the final product to a panel of expert judges.

Participants will receive support, matchmaking, tooling, and mentorship throughout the process to bring their ideas to life.

“With Build-A-Bull, we expect to attract a new wave of promising builders to come into the Algorand ecosystem,” says Ryan Terribilini, EVP of Algorand Ventures. “We are looking for high-potential, investible startups and founders to bring innovative projects to the Algorand blockchain, and we are confident that the resources and exposure of participating in Build-A-Bull will catalyze this next generation of Algorand builders.” 

The hackathon includes five tracks:

• Decentralized finance (defi), presented by Circle
• Gaming, presented by Unity
• Consumer, presented by AWS
• Interoperability, presented by Wormhole
• Impact, presented by Algorand Foundation 

Winners in each track receive $25,000 and the chance to pitch to investors on a “demo day.”

An additional $10,000 Grand Prize, along with $25,000 in AWS credits, will be decided by a public on-chain vote.

Second and third-place winners in each track get $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. There’s also a $5,000 University Prize determined by the judges.

The judging panel includes industry leaders and investors like QCP Capital, DWF Ventures, and Blockchain Capital.

Projects will be evaluated based on team strength, project design, pitch quality, and market adoption potential.
