Legend Unveils NFT Project
As the blockchain-based digital collectibles movement continues to gain momentum globally, with the industry predicted to surpass the $35 billion valuations this year, John Legend has become the latest celebrity to join the NFTs craze.
Per sources close to the matter, Legend, one of the very few American superstars that have won all the major entertainment awards in the country (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony), has revealed that his NFT platform is aimed at creating a better ecosystem that will enable creative people to make the most of their works while also engaging with fans.
Vibe NFTs
The 43-year-old R&B singer and co-founder of Our Happy Company, the firm in charge of the newly launched NFTs platform known as OurSong, has made it clear that members of the community will be able to easily turn their stories, music, photos, and all kind of art into NFT trading cards called Vibes
With Vibes, OurSong community members will be able to unlock exclusive updates and access exclusive private chat communities where they can meet and engage with like-minded people, the firm says.
Commenting on the launch of the project, John Legend said:
“NFTs hold so much promise in ushering in the next generation of singers, songwriters, photographers, artists, and more. I helped found OurSong because I believe NFTs can change the way creators are discovered, improve how they serve their biggest fans, and reshape the industry as a whole. That starts with building a platform that serves all creators, whether they have one hundred fans or one hundred thousand.”
At a time when the minting of NFTs on Ethereum-based platforms have become an activity for only those with deep pockets, due to the crazy gas fees on the network, Legend and his team have stated categorically that one of OurSong’s missions is to totally smash the barrier to entry into the NFT space and make it possible for just anyone to create, buy or sell their digital collectibles.
Importantly, the team has hinted that despite being powered by blockchain technology, OurSong does not require users to own a separate cryptocurrency wallet before they can use the platform and NFTs (Vibes) can be created, shared, or purchased for as little as a few dollars.
OurSong Dollars (OSD) is the primary payment method on the platform. Users can purchase OSD with their credit or debit card, wire payment, or Circle’s USD Coin (USDC).
Other members of the OurSong team include Kevin Lin, co-founder of Twitch, Chris Lin, CEO of KKBOX, and Matt Cheng, founder of Cherubic Ventures.
Other celebrities that have ventured into the world of NFTs in recent times include Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, Justin Bieber, Steph Curry, Lionel Messi, and Snoop Dogg, to mention a few.
