Circle’s USDC to launch on Aptos with Stripe adding support
Aptos Foundation announced that Circle’s USDC stablecoin and Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol will launch on the Aptos blockchain.
Along with this launch, Stripe is also adding support for Aptos (APT) in its crypto payment products, a move aimed at streamlining payments and boosting decentralized finance on the network, according to a press release shared with crypto.news.
USDC (USDC), a dollar-backed stablecoin regulated by Circle, has over $37 billion in circulation. Currently, $160 million in bridged USDC operates on Aptos, making it the most-used stablecoin on the network, according to the release.
The upcoming integration will see native USDC issued directly on Aptos by Circle’s regulated entities, eliminating reliance on bridged versions. Developers will also gain access to CCTP, enabling cross-chain transfers between Aptos and other blockchains like Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Arbitrum (ARB).
The Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol will allow apps on Aptos to send USDC seamlessly to and from other blockchains like Ethereum, Solana, and Base. This improves interoperability, making it easier for users to move their digital assets across networks.
Aptos and Stripe
Stripe’s integration will enable Aptos wallets to convert fiat currencies like dollars into USDC and vice versa. For merchants, this creates an easier way to accept or send payments using stablecoins. The system connects traditional finance with blockchain, helping businesses process transactions more efficiently.
To manage the transition, Aptos will rename its bridged USDC as “lzUSDC” and work with apps and bridge providers like LayerZero to shift liquidity to the native version. Developers and users can continue using the current bridged USDC until the migration is complete.
CCTP’s launch on Aptos also supports DeFi, where users interact with financial products like lending or trading without traditional intermediaries. The protocol will enable smoother cross-chain transactions, supporting use cases like swapping tokens or managing funds across multiple networks.
“Adding support for the Aptos blockchain inside our crypto products broadens consumer and merchant access to more efficient global fund flows with stablecoins; whether it be a retailer accepting payments from around the world, or a platform paying creators no matter where they are.”
