Hosted by Currency Research, the fourth annual Digital Currency Conference welcomes industry experts to Thailand, 28–29 May 2025.
Currency Research (CR), a leading global provider of premium conferences for the cash and payments industries, will host the Digital Currency Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, 28–29 May 2025. Now in its fourth edition, the Digital Currency Conference offers a unique forum for central banks, financial institutions, fintech, and technology providers to debate and discuss the dynamic digital currency landscape.
This year’s Digital Currency Conference comes at a pivotal juncture for the international financial system. With nearly all of the world’s central banks currently exploring the development and implementation of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), stablecoins playing an increasingly prominent role in the global financial system, and tokenized digital assets holding transformative potential, CR says industry dialogue and engagement are needed more than ever.
“We started the Digital Currency Conference in 2022 as the world was just beginning to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic,” says Currency Research Chief Commercial Officer Shaun Ferrari. “It’s well-documented how the pandemic served as a significant catalyst for the accelerated adoption of digital payment instruments worldwide, which also coincided with a tremendous surge in interest and intensity around CBDCs. Now that we’re in our fourth year, a lifetime in the digital currency space, it’s fascinating to see how the digital currency conversation has evolved and to observe the initiatives and various use cases being emphasized by central and commercial banks. These shifts are reflected in the program we’ve developed this year, and we’re ecstatic about the diversity of expertise on the agenda.”
Over the course of 1.5 days, the Digital Currency Conference will feature 25+ speakers exploring a range of vital topics. Discussion will focus on the use of wholesale CBDCs for cross-border payments; public-private collaboration in digital currencies; financial inclusion through digital currencies; the stablecoin regulatory landscape; cross-border payments, illiquid currency corridors, and tokenization; and risk management and cybersecurity in digital finance. Additionally, two expert-led workshops will offer deep dives into digital assets and the intersection of AI and digital currencies.
The Bank of Thailand’s Thammarak Moenjak will deliver the conference’s opening keynote address: “Safe and Inclusive Digital Finance.” Also appearing on the program are senior-level representatives from organizations including: AID:Tech, APAC DAO, Bank of England, BIS Innovation Hub, BitMint, COMESA Clearing House, De Nederlandsche Bank, Discover Payments, FemTech Partners, FSCO, HBAR Foundation, IBM, Kasikornbank, Mastercard, Mojaloop Foundation, National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, National Switch Limited Malawi, Oesterreichische Nationalbank, PTAP Advisory, Quantum Technology Foundation (Thailand), R3, Reserve Bank of Malawi, Standard Chartered Bank, Tokeny, UC Berkeley Law Collaboration, and Zen.com.
The Digital Currency Conference follows immediately after the conclusion of the Currency Conference, Currency Research’s flagship event exploring developments in currency policy, regulation, and innovation, a positioning that makes perfect sense to CR CEO Jens Seidl. “Central banks understand this is not a ‘winner-take-all’ contest between cash and electronic payments. In some form or another, both are needed and likely here to stay. We’re encouraged to see so many central banks deciding to remain in Bangkok and attend the Digital Currency Conference, bridging the worlds of physical and digital currency.”
