Fujitsu Announces Blockchain Asset Service to Promote Regional Revitalization

An official press release from Fujitsu, one of Japan’s largest electronics manufacturers, has announced the launch of the Fujitsu Intelligent Society Solution Blockchain Asset Service.

Fujitsu’s Blockchain Push

The cloud-based service will allow customers of participating retailers to collect digital points by reading QR codes in specified locations that are redeemable in store for discounts or other benefits. The service provides for more effective marketing strategies by recording customers transaction using distributed ledger technology (DLT), which can then be linked to customer metadata for analysis.

Fujitsu has implemented this technology as a concerted effort to help revitalize regional areas by providing actionable metrics to assist in the rollout of rapid response sales strategies. By connecting local events and promotions in high traffic areas, service providers hope to improve attraction rates and increase customers “willingness to buy.”

The blockchain-based solution has already seen strong support from Japanese companies, with Fujitsu recently conducting field trials with organizations including Odakyu Electric Railway Co. Ltd., the Shizuoka branch of Nippon Telegraph and Taiwan FamilyMart.

Smart Devices to Augment the Retail Experience

Previous field tests conducted in March, 2018, at the Chongqing South Road FamilyMart demonstrated Fujitsu’s goals in providing a unique customer experience. In this trial, FamilyMart customers were provided store guidance through Fujitsu’s Robopin communications robot and presented with supplementary product information via smart devices utilizing Fujitsu’s FlowSign Light content delivery service and FlowSign Video communications system.

Fujitsu plans to further integrate these interactive sales and marketing technologies into stores to provide companies with nuanced sales data and more accurately gauge consumer interest. This next generation retail experience will allow merchants to better cater to consumer interests, allowing companies to leverage customer engagement and interaction data to shape their products further.

Blockchain Application Integration with Ease

Fujitsu’s Intelligent Society Solution Blockchain Asset Service will allow service providers to access the platform through a readily available API which will enable safe, secure and quick transactions without requiring a dedicated ICT development environment or expertise in blockchain technology. This level of accessibility will allow the platform to service a wide range of application developers, furth bolstering the accuracy and reliability of the services analytics tools.

By collating data points recorded on the distributed ledger and linking them with limited user data, attributed primarily to a login profile, the platform can present service providers with a detailed analysis of users interests and activities. The platform also allows for hassle-free service management, enabling providers to check distribution and usage status of coupons.

The integration of blockchain technology into the retail space provides companies with a streamlined solution for providing companies with operations management, analysis and distribution functionalities in a co-operative and cost-effective manner. Fujitsu’s Blockchain Asset Service, in combination with their next generation retail signage and customer service technologies, positions the company as a significant player in the changeling landscape of the retail sector.
