SuperDAO debuts DApp Amalgamating Poker and Ethereum’s Blockchain
Multiple decentralized applications are being built on top of the Ethereum blockchain infrastructure as we speak. One of those projects is called Pokereum, which focuses on online poker playing in a peer-to-peer environment. The project is designed to be EVM neutral, meaning it can be deployed on any Ethereum Virtual machine-capable smart contract blockchain, including Ethereum Classic and Rootstock.
Explaining The Pokereum Concept In A Nutshell
Pokereum is the first DApp developed by SuperDAO, a reputation-based tiered decentralized autonomous organization within the Ethereum ecosystem. The team set out to solve ‘mental poker’ problems, a term used to describe a set of cryptographic problems that concerns playing a fair game without the need for a trusted third party. At the same time, they pride themselves on providing a poker experience through a polished user interface, enhancing the player’s experience.
The Pokereum project has been in development for quite some time, being far from finished. A full whitepaper related to the project is being finalized and will be made public in the coming days. Pokereum takes things one step further, by leveraging different cryptographic properties of cards games and smart contracts.
One particular function that stands out is called Shadow Poker. What this solution does is let other projects integrate parts of the code base into their existing concepts. Shadow Poker is expected to be released early 2017, once the SuperDAO membership crowdfunding campaign has come to an end.
By presenting the world’s first completely decentralized peer-to-peer poker platform, the SuperDAO team can be labeled as pioneers. The entire project exists on the blockchain, providing a trustless interaction between players from all over the world. Taking the P2P approach serves another function, as it allows maximum speed of action and processes within the DApp itself.
Shaking Up Online Cryptocurrency Gambling
Although Pokereum is only a prototype, for now, an imminent release of the public beta is expected. This will give users an overview of what type of poker experience they can expect. From the Youtube demo video, it looks like any other well-designed poker game platform, but it is the technology under the hood that makes it worthwhile.
Moreover, the fact Pokereum is EVM-agnostic is a smart decision. Rather than “limiting” this project to the Ethereum ecosystem, it will also support Ethereum Classic and Rootstock. This latter option is quite an interesting one, as Rootstock aims to offer smart contract functionality to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Developing decentralized applications with large mainstream appeal seem to be the right way to go. Pokereum will, assuming it works as advertised, impact the way we think about online gambling within the cryptocurrency space. Depending on how successful the project can be, it may even revolutionize the online gambling industry as a whole.
