AMD Joins Blockchain Game Alliance, Inks Partnerships with ULTRA and Robot Cache

U.S.-based computer processor manufacturing firm AMD has joined the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) to foster blockchain-based PC gaming. Additionally, the computer hardware giant has inked partnerships with Robot Cache and ULTRA to develop distributed ledger technology-powered (DLT) gaming platforms, reports Guru3D, December 16, 2019.

AMD Makes Entry Into the Blockchain Gaming Space

Blockchain technology has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with across multiple industries around the world including the gaming space. In this latest development, computer component manufacturing giant AMD has joined the BGA to propel the use of DLT in the gaming space.

For the uninitiated, the BGA is an open-source organization that is committed to promoting the use of blockchain within the gaming industry. According to the organization’s website, the BGA’s goal is to spread awareness about blockchain technologies and encourage adoption by highlighting their potential to foster new ways to create, publish, play, and build strong communities around games.

Sources close to the matter state that through the BGA, AMD wants to foster alliances among the group’s members by providing high-performance computing technologies and DLT-enabled gaming platforms.

Joerg Roskowetz, Head of Blockchain Technology, AMD, commented on the development saying:

Blockchain technology brings broader choice, security and flexibility to both gamers and publishers. Next-generation blockchain game platforms will give gamers access to exclusive online content, and provide new ways for them to truly own it. They will also provide game publishers with new channels to distribute digital game content.

Nicolas Pouard, Blockchain Initiative Director at Ubisoft, echoed Roskowetz’s sentiments saying:

The Blockchain Game Alliance is gathering some of the world’s top blockchain innovators and content developers to bring players the best of what this technology has to offer. “We’re delighted to work with AMD, and other alliance members to determine the role of blockchain in the entertainment experiences of the future.

Partnership with ULTRA

In addition to joining the BGA, AMD has also joined forces with blockchain-based games distribution platform ULTRA. Reportedly, ULTRA will use AMD EPYC processors for its blockchain to facilitate block publication.

On November 22, 2019, BTCManager reported how French gaming giant Ubisoft had partnered with ULTRA to offer new solutions to both developers and gamers.
