Final Alpha Release of IOTA Streams Goes Live Promising Robust Data Privacy and Security
IOTA Streams is now the latest addition to the IOTA Foundation’s suite of decentralized ledger technology (DLT) solutions. The move is the latest efforts to cover all the bases required for seamless data transfer in the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem which IOTA (MIOTA) aims to facilitate.
IOTA Streams to Deliver Granular Data Control
The IOTA Foundation announced the news of the final Alpha release for IOTA Streams via a blog post published on Friday (Oct. 16, 2020). According to the press statement, the Foundation revealed that IOTA Streams is an open-source DLT protocol that will enable encrypted and decentralized data streaming.
IOTA Streams will reportedly enable granular access and agile control of their data across mobile devices and IoT sensors alike. Detailing the purpose of IOTA Streams, the blog post reads:
“IOTA Streams was created so that users, organizations, devices, and systems can incorporate tamper-proof data where it makes sense. If the data needs quick processing with minimal security, like streaming videos online, that would not be an appropriate use case for Streams. Where data is valuable and needs to be secured, Streams can provide that protection.”
According to the blog post, IOTA Streams is designed to be compatible with other IOTA Layer 2 protocols. Thus, when the project becomes fully realized, frameworks like IOTA Access will run complementary to IOTA Streams.
The granular nature of the data access protocols baked into the IOTA Streams architecture means the new tool will offer a significant reduction in data storage and management. By eliminating centralized data hubs, users can now determine what happens to their own digital resources, generating revenue based on custom-made parameters tailored to their needs.
Chrysalis Integration in the Works
Back in September, BTCManager reported that IOTA successfully deployed its Chrysalis network update as it moves towards the major Coordicide upgrade that will transition the project to a fully decentralized ecosystem. With Chrysalis Phase 2 still in development, protocols like IOTA Streams are still being released in their Alpha versions.
According to the blog post, Streams will move into Beta testing when the Chrysalis Phase 2 protocol upgrade is complete. Concerning the Coordicide upgrade, senior IOTA researchers recently assured the community that the planned network-wide update will not fail.
