Splinterlands Joins Forces with Warner Music Group to Help It Enter the Booming Play-to-Earn Gaming Space
Today, the leading global music conglomerate Warner Music Group (WMG) announced a partnership with the top blockchain gaming developer Splinterlands to enter the rapidly booming blockchain play-to-earn (P2E) gaming space.
WMG Allies with Splinterlands to Enter the Blockchain Gaming Space
Blockchain gaming continues to be one of the leading use-cases of the emerging technology apart from its role in powering cryptocurrencies.
The rise of P2E games like Axie Infinity, among others, has piqued the interest of some of the top tech and media companies around the world who are steadily entering the nascent space to expand their business footprint.
In the latest development, WMG has inked a deal with the leading blockchain gaming developer Splinterlands. The partnership will enable select WMG artists to create and develop unique, P2E, arcade-style blockchain games.
It’s worthy of highlighting that Splinterlands currently operates the world’s most popular and critically acclaimed blockchain gaming decentralized application (dApp) dubbed Splinterlands.
Commenting on the partnership with Splinterlands, Oana Ruxandra, Chief Digital Officer & EVP, Business Development, WMG said:
“I don’t think we can underestimate how massive the opportunity around P2E gaming is. By partnering with Splinterlands to build custom tokenized games, we’ll unlock new revenue streams for our artists who have an interest in the space while elevating the role of fandom and community. As the Web3 ecosystem continues to evolve, WMG is committed to making sure music is front-and-center.”
Similar sentiments were echoed by Jesse “Aggroed” Reich, CEO and Co-founder of Splinterlands.
Reich said:
“Warner Music Group is a leader in the music industry. They are innovating the music industry to meet the standards set by Web 3.0 community members. We’re thrilled to be working with them and I look forward to new collaborations at the intersection of gaming, music, crypto, NFTs, defi, and blockchain.”
What does the Partnership Entail?
WMG’s alliance with Splinterlands means the two entities will produce blockchain-based, mobile-friendly, accessible games. The arcade-style gaming will help in the wider adoption of the final gaming product and lay the groundwork for strong community building.
According to a recent report by DappRadar, blockchain-powered games are quickly increasing in popularity and currently make up almost half of the entire blockchain industry’s usage.
Blockchain games offer more power to the players as is evident from the recent flurry of P2E games that leverage distributed ledger technology (DLT) to give players rewards such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that hold real-world utilities. Players are free to sell, trade, or lease anything they earn in-game.
Founded in 2018, Splinterlands has cemented itself as one of the top blockchain gaming projects to date. The company’s fantasy-themed collectible card game dubbed Splinterlands currently boasts 1.8 million users, 450,000 daily users, and recently passed a historic one billion battle milestone.
As previously reported by crypto.news, over six million of Splinterland’s “Chaos Legion” card packs were sold out in less than 24 hours after general sale activation.
Ahead of this general sale, users received their cards using credits swapped for Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) or Splinterlands’ native token, SPS.
