Warner Media Sports Division Launches NFT Golf Game Reboot
Warner Media-backed Turner Sports has announced the relaunch of its Blocklete Golf game powered by non-fungible token (NFT) technology. Players using Android and iOS mobile devices will receive access to a beta version of the game. Also, the NFT golf game plans to leverage the Flow blockchain network and deploy a play-to-earn model.
Turner Sports Releases Blocklete Golf for Mobile Devices
According to a report published on Monday (March 7, 2022) by Ledger Insights, the second season of Blocklete Golf launched in beta mode on mobile devices powered by Google’s Android operating system and Apple’s iOS.
In addition, Blocklete’s reboot is set to roll out new features like Pro Shops for players to trade digital gear as NFTs. Details from the project’s roadmap also reveal that community members could run these shops in the coming months as well.
The new season is reportedly a reboot of the original game released back in September 2020 by Turner Sports. Blocklete Golf was also supposedly a rebranded version of Arena Golf which launched in February 2020. The latest announcement from Turner Sport reveals a switch between blockchain networks. While the original Blocklete game was built on Ethereum, season two will leverage technology and solutions provided by the Flow ecosystem.
Flow’s blockchain system boasts an efficient Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism combined with a multi-node architecture designed to optimize speed and throughput which facilitates low transaction costs.
Commenting on the decision to migrate to a different decentralized network, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Digital League Business Operations, Growth, and Innovation at Turner Sports, Yang Adija highlighted that Flow offers unique support for blockchain-powered games and NFT operations.
Adija added that Blocklete Golf represents the first major development in a franchise of play and earn games the sports division intends to build. The Turner Sports SVP emphasized that players can expect impressive gameplay and additional NFT products in the coming months. Adija also said:
“We have been at the forefront of the NFT and blockchain movement in sports and believe that we have a real opportunity to serve sports fans via this new avenue of digital athletes. We’re equally excited for this debut on Flow, the blockchain where sports NFTs live.”
