WWE Set to Launch NFT Platform WWE Moonsault
World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc has announced that it is making a big move into the cryptocurrency space by launching its official NFTs marketplace.
The NFT platform named WWE Moonsault is yet to launch, and interested dealers can sign up to an email list to receive more information when they become available. Interestingly, the wrestling organisation is partnering with Blockchain Creative Labs, the NFT division of Fox Entertainment, for this new development that is set to launch shortly before the blockbuster event, WrestleMania 38, between April 2nd and 3rd.
WWE confirmed the news during a press release, saying, “This past Sunday at SXSW 2022 in Austin, Texas at the Blockchain Creative Labs’ House, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon announced the name of WWE’s new NFT platform, WWE Moonsault,” According to the announcement, Fans can now go to the WWE Moonsault website and sign up to receive additional details.
WWE’s Previous NFTs Development
The WWE has a long history of notable NFTs achievements. It made the headlines in April 2021, when it auctioned a special collection of NFTs for the popular character “the Undertaker”. This was followed by the launch of the John Cena NFT collection during its SummerSlam event.
Last October, Stephanie McMahon, the chief brand officer of WWE, mentioned that the professional wrestling organisation was exploring the possibilities of the metaverse. Accordingly, it partnered with Fox’s Blockchain Creative Labs to create official tokens and collectables.
This latest move has already gotten fans excited as they look forward to holding rare NFTs of their favourite superstars. WWE Moonsault has already launched an official community on discord called WWE Universe Discord community for fans to get exclusive content with WWE superstars.
Sports Brands Adopting NFTs
Many sports brands worldwide are finding new means to generate more revenue to strengthen them financially, and NFTs has provided them with an opportunity. It might be too early to tell if it is a profitable investment, but the development is ongoing.
Football
Football is one of the sports taken to NFTs, with several football clubs partnering to create special NFT collections. Sorare and Chiliz have dominated the headlines with high profile partnerships with football giants such as Barcelona, PSG, Juventus and Arsenal.
Crypto.news recently reported that the English Premier League had partnered with blockchain platform Consensys to develop NFTs.
NBA
The National Basketball Association is the first sports brand to create its NFT market known as NBA Top Shot. The platform allows fans to buy and sell distinct NBA NFT collectables comprising officially licensed video highlights. The progress of Top Shot has inspired other sports brands to join the NFT market.
NFL
The National Football League partnered with Dapper Labs, the team responsible for NBA Top Shot in September 2021. In addition, Dapper Labs, the best known sporting NFT platform, are currently building an NFT product for NFL. This product can allow football fans to collect and own NFT tokens that features NFL players.
NHL
The Las Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League, NHL created its own NFT tokens that comprised of seven unique NFTs along with smaller pieces. In addition, the Kontinental Hockey League, which includes clubs in Belarus, China, Finland and Russia, started issuing NFT hockey cards on the Binance NFT platform.
