Arweave sends encrypted data to the moon
Decentralized data storage company Arweave has launched its “Genesis Block” to the moon in collaboration with two other companies.
Arweave (AR), in partnership with Iridia and LifeShup, has sent encrypted data and cryptocurrencies in a wallet on a space mission, according to a Jan. 15 press statement.
The concept tapped Iridia’s synthetic DNA-based storage technology and LifeShip’s lunar landing craft to rocket Arweave’s data capsule to the moon.
Founded in 2017, Arweave has sought to provide cheap permanent storage for the “world’s knowledge and history,” beginning with its Genesis Block, said Arweave CEO Sam Williams.

The mission also included sending Artificial Super Intelligence Alliance (FET) tokens in an Iridia Molecular Wallet. According to the joint statement, the moon’s stable environment and nanotechnology will preserve the data for millennia.
“It’s about safeguarding knowledge and digital assets for generations to come in a way that transcends the boundaries of time, space, and even imagination,” said Buck Watia, VP of product and commercial at Iridia.
