Enjin and DEA Announce the Winners of the First Annual NFT Awards Program

Enjin, the blockchain ecosystem developer behind the Enjin minting platform for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and Singapore-based Digital Asset Entertainment (DEA), have announced the winners of the 1st annual NFT Awards program, a press release from December 9 reads.

About the NFT Awards

The NFT Awards program was first announced on Oct 6. By seeking out and identifying the best, most innovative NFT projects and use cases, the program established by Enjin and DEA aims to catalyze and promote adoption of Blockchain technology.

Judged by experts from across the tech, gaming, entertainment, and blockchain industries, the NFT Awards honors innovation, creativity, and excellence among NFT creators.

2020 NFT Awards Winners

Winners were announced via a live stream co-produced by Enjin and DEA.

From the over 266 nominees, Micah Johnson’s “ˈsä-v(ə-)rən-tē” scooped the NFT of the Year award after two rounds of judging. His NFT is a time-sensitive photographic artwork that documents two young boys and supports their future. Unique, a layer change each year on the boys’ respective birthdays reveals their career aspirations and a Bitcoin wallet, allowing viewers to directly contribute to their cause.

“During my baseball career, I thoroughly enjoyed the process and the grind far more than any award or accolade. However, being nominated for NFT Awards has a special place in my heart because it was a team effort,” said Johnson. “The space welcomed me in with open arms and pushed me to elevate my artistic output, culminating with my latest work on ASYNC. Being nominated alongside some of the artists I look up to is incredibly humbling.”

Other winners were:

The People’s Choice title went to five tokens:

  1. 64 GALLON TOTER by ROBNESS
  2. Crypto Stamp by the Austrian Post
  3. The People’s Potato by Second Realm
  4. Knife by Nifty Wizards
  5. Pop Star from JobTribes by DEA

The Judging Panel

The adjudicators were experienced in their respective fields. They were drawn from the tech, gaming, and Blockchain world.

For this Awards Program, the main judging panel was highlighted by Nobuyuki Idei, the former CEO and Chairman of Sony. Others included Sherry List of Microsoft; Nicolas Pouard of Ubisoft; Etsuji Nakai of Google; Justin Blau (“3LAU”), an established artist/musician; Nao Udagawa, Managing Director of BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc.; and Shigeki Morimoto, the game designer of the Pokémon series known for being the creator of the battle system and rare Pokémon “Mew.”

Their involvement was important, as they evaluated the wider market potential of nominated use cases, casting their vision on “which NFTs could create a catalyst for mass adoption of Blockchain technology.”

Besides the main judging panel, the preliminary judging panel (the “Blockchain Council”) consisted of 24 thought leaders in the Blockchain space, including Patrick Barile, COO of DappRadar; Vansa Chatikavanij, CEO of OMG Network; Frédéric Chesnais, CEO of Atari, among others.
