Meme coins FWOG, GOAT, and SPX debut on Kraken
Kraken crypto exchange has officially opened trading for Solana-based meme coins FWOG and GOAT.
Kraken, one of the largest U.S.-based crypto exchanges, has listed Solana native meme coin tokens FWOG (FWOG), GOAT (GOAT), and SPX (SPX) for spot trading, expanding its crypto array for users.
The platform had previously added FWOG, GOAT, and SPX to its listing roadmap last week, intending to finalize trading support for the meme coins on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
FWOG, GOAT, and SPX recorded gains on the day. However, a meme market-wide rise at press time was the likely cause, and price surges may be unrelated to the Kraken listing.
The addition of meme coins to major exchanges has surged since Donald Trump’s re-election, which signaled a shift in the U.S.’s stance on crypto and spurred wider adoption of digital assets. According to crypto.news, Coinbase just added PNUT (PNUT) to its listing roadmap after including tokens like Pepe (PEPE), Dogwifhat (WIF), and Floki (FLOKI).
Meme coin holders and community members often praise exchange listings as bullish. Still, some within the industry have opted out of the meme mani, preferring projects with more sound utility and real-world impact. In a private note, Safe co-founder Lukas Schor said “Meme coins are fun, but so are fundaments.”
It’s time we revolutionized the financial landscape, not just replicated old financial products and past trends. To see sustainable growth, we need to focus on core values like ownership, privacy, and financial autonomy.
While some OG memecoins indeed created community, narrative, and lore, most of today’s memecoins create very little sustainable value and rather live purely on speculation. This inevitably leads to an ever-shortening lifespan where people just try to catch the next wave and then exit as soon as possible. This means that memecoin deployers have to constantly stretch the boundaries in order to gain attention, leading to dystopian episodes going as far as people showing nudity, applying violence or seeking attention through other ways to shock in order to stick out.
