MyMetaverse and Enjin Introduce NFT Tokens to Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft Games
The integration of non-fungible tokens (NFT) into mainstream games is increasing with the latest partnership between MyMetaverse and Enjin. The popular automotive game Grand Theft Auto V and adventure game Minecraft now have their own in-game NFTs.
MyMetaverse and Enjin Launch NFTs to Game Servers
The Sydney-based MyMetaverse revealed that the new digital collectibles are the first-minted NFT on Efinity, hosted on the MetaHome platform.
Furthermore, the game developer noted that the NFTs could be used on all of MyMetaverse’s gaming series, including servers for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA5) and Minecraft. The firm is a leading developer in metaverse play-to-earn games. Insider sources disclosed that the NFTs would serve different roles on three game servers upon launch.
Moreover, the MetaHome NFT collections have unique game utility on every compatible platform. In the MyMetaverse GTA5, the NFTs are rare automobiles users can play with to earn more game points.
While in the Minecraft gameplay, they are special swords for battles. It is worth noting that MyMetaverse is not the parent company of Minecraft and GTA5.
Efinity is a Polkadot-based parachain for facilitating NFT transactions; several platforms leverage its broad features to host their products.
Meanwhile, Enjin is a system for NFT integration into the metaverse, and it also helps in the development of Efinity. Onboarding NFT on Efinity paves the way to granting NFT access to everyone.
Simon Kertonegoro, CEO of MyMetaverse, noted that the NFTs’ utility in three games aims to explore blockchain-based and cross-chain interoperability. As a result of the collaboration with Enjin, it has become the first playable NFT on the Polkadot network.
NFTs in Mainstream Gaming
From art to the creative industry, the explosion of NFT has been phenomenal. NFTs are steadily finding their way into the video gaming industry as a blockchain-based platform. However, the concept of NFT sounds alien to traditional game players.
Still, proponents are confident that millions of players could get used to the idea behind the introduction of NFTs in video games.
Despite the skepticism from players, many mainstream gaming firms have launched their NFT platforms. Players get to acquire in-game tools like weapons or vehicles using digital collectibles.
Ubisoft and the popular FIFA football game maker, Electronic Arts (EA), are some prominent game developers who introduced NFTs to their platforms.
Due to the broad use case of cryptocurrencies, experts predicted that video game makers would expand access to NFTs.
Furthermore, the popularity of blockchain play-to-earn games like Axie Infinity is one of the attractions of incentivizing video games.
In 2021, a whopping $26.9 billion transaction volume in the NFT market was recorded. Other individual transactions have generated millions of dollars over the past few months.
However, NFT has shown that it can be another revenue stream for game creators to leverage. Analysts believe that the gaming industry is insufficient to accelerate the acceptance of digital collectibles.
For the gaming industry, NFT can further expand its user base and bring more nerds onto gaming platforms.
