Vitalik Buterin comments on the benefits of Verkle Trees for Ethereum
Co-founder of the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain Vitalik Buterin expresses hope for the appearance of Verkle trees in the blockchain network.
In his opinion, the integration of the data structure will lead to a significant improvement in the disk space used by betting nodes.
According to information provided by the Ethereum co-creator, Verkle trees will enable the creation of many new types of functionality in addition to stateless clients, saving a significant amount of storage space required to run a node.
“They [Verkle trees] will enable stateless validator clients, allowing staking nodes to run with near-zero hard disk space and sync nearly instantly – far better solo staking UX. Also good for user-facing light clients.”
Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum co-founder
In addition, Buterin is confident that Verkle trees will bring many benefits to the Ethereum blockchain.
“Verkle trees are a data structure that can be used to upgrade Ethereum nodes so that they can stop storing large amounts of state data without losing the ability to validate blocks.”
Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum co-founder
The digital asset community on X has been eagerly awaiting the integration of Verkle trees into Ethereum, with one user stating that the prospect of near-zero burdensome drive space requirements and near-instant synchronization is a game-changer.
An Ethereum update called the Dencun Update is expected. The developers said the update will not happen this year as more work needs to be done. For most users, Dencun is associated primarily with Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP) 4844 or the so-called proto-danksharding. However, in addition to it, the upgrade includes the implementation of seven more EIPs, affecting particular aspects of the blockchain.
