Vote to Oust Brantly Millegan From ENS Foundation Might Fail to Gain SupportĀ

The social proposal to remove Brantley Millegan from his position as the Director of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) Foundation Company has failed to gain enough support so far, as the majority of voters have voted against Milleganā€™s removal. Voting closes on March 5, 2022.

Millegan May Retain Position as ENS DirectorĀ

The proposal to oust the longstanding Ethereum Name Service Foundation Director, Brantly Millegan from the company has failed to gain significant support with just three days until voting ends.

As reported by crypto.news on February 7, 2022, Ethereum Name Service stewards indefinitely suspended Brantly Millegan as an ENS decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) community steward, after his 2016 tweet condemning practices such as transgenderism, masturbation, and others that are against his Catholic belief, resurfaced.

ā€œHomosexual acts are evil. Transgerism doesn’t exist. Abortion is murder. Contraception is a perversion. So is masturbation and porn,ā€ Millegan tweeted in 2016.

Millegan reaffirmed his stance on the highly controversial LGBT topic last month, while also making it clear that he has never discriminated against such people despite his religious beliefs and affiliations.Ā

ā€œI want to make it clear that Iā€™ve never excluded anyone from ENS or my work (or even my life) because of who they are or what they believe. I just don’t believe thatā€ he declared at the time.

ā€œYes I believe in Catholic doctrine (not a secret), and Iā€™m not changing that, and I donā€™t think itā€™s practical or moral for the web3 industry to exclude the many traditional-minded Christians, Muslims, Jews, and others who agree with me.ā€

Brantly Stays On As ENS DirectorĀ

While Brantly remains suspended from his stewardship duties in the ENS, the motion to dish out further punishment to him by removing him as the Director of the ENS Foundation has failed to gather enough support, with 45.34 percent of members of the ecosystem voting against the proposal, 14.88 percent have abstained from voting, while 39.78 percent of the members have voted in support of the proposal.

Created in May 2017, by Alex Van de Sande and Nick Johnson, ENS makes it possible for Ethereum wallet public addresses to be displayed in a simplified text-based format just like regular website addresses. ENS domains can also be traded as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

True Names Ltd is the firm in charge of the development of the ENS code and ENS Foundation is its parent company.Ā

Voting is carried out on a one-token-one-vote basis, with Millegan also allowed to cast his vote. The University of St. Thomas alumnus has taken excellent advantage of that right, as heā€™s currently the largest voter, with a total of 363k ENS.

Notably, Nick Johnson, co-founder and lead developer of ENS, who previously fired Millegan from True Names Ltd., after stating categorically that he had never seen Brantly discriminate against anyone because of who they are,Ā  has abstained from voting.

With voting scheduled to end on March 5, 2022, it remains to be seen whether Milligan will survive the raging storm.

At press time, the price of ENS token is hovering around $15.82, according to CoinMarkeCap.
