Billboard & World of Women to Honor Christina Aguilera With an NFT Magazine Cover
Billboard and the World of Women in Music have decided to honor three artists starting with American singer Christina Aguilera with NFT magazine covers. Aguilera was chosen as Billboard’s first Iconic Woman for 2022. The NFTs were designed by Yam Karkai, World of Women co-founder and NFT artist.
Billboard Celebrates Christina Aguilera With NFT Magazine Cover
On Feb 28, Billboard announced that it has decided to honor this year’s Iconic Woman in Music with an NFT magazine cover. The project will benefit three singers including American artist and tv personality Christina Aguilera. The covers were made through a joint effort between Billboard and World of Women.
The second and third covers would launch today and tomorrow and sell later on the FTX NFT marketplace. Some of the proceeds from the sale of will go to non-profit organizations of each cover star’s choosing. Billboard also added that the buyers of the NFTs would be offered air tickets to Los Angeles for the Women in Music celebration of 2023. They(buyers) will be permitted to walk on the red carpet alongside the cover stars.
Christina Aguilera had first discussed the cover on Feb 23 in a Twitter conversation with Billboard’s journalist Leila Cobo. In the discussion, Aguilera touched on different happenings in her life, including future career plans. She explained that she wants to resume writing and singing Spanish songs, and her daughter is her biggest fan.
Aguilera revealed that she strongly supports the Women’s Empowerment Movement and has lived a life that does not necessarily follow the ‘expectations’ of the public.
In the conversation, she said:
“It’s important to support women and you can take the easy way out sometimes to do what the public will expect, but all of my career I’ve gone for the unexpected. All my career I’ve gone for it, it doesn’t matter who’s charting. The talented self speaks to me and much of the time that doesn’t include everybody that’s on the charts. Some of that can get to be a bit manufactured. It’s always good energy to work with other women.”
Aguilera also pointed out that she also supports National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). The coalition works as a community that shields women against any form of domestic violence. She also urged society to join in and make the offenders accountable for their deeds.
NFTs Shakes up the Art World
NFTs are generally digital art, but they are gaining more use cases as time passes. Notably, they have strongly occupied the Art and entertainment world, with many artists investing or selling their work as NFTs. Some entertainment platforms have also adopted NFTs and underlying blockchain technology to benefit their artists.
Label is one of such platforms. As reported by crypto.news, the platform plans to build an NFT infrastructure for the entertainment sector. It aims to leverage the benefits of NFTs, blockchain technology, and p2p payment systems for better funding of creators. Therefore, the project will end up hauling in more money for artists.
Youtube is also figuring out how to incorporate NFTs into its systems. The platform is a global leader in video streaming and sharing; thus, its introduction of NFTs and blockchain technology will be a game-changer. The company recently revealed that it would incorporate NFTs and underlying technology to maintain digital ownership of its content.
Individual artists have also shown interest in NFTs and related technology like Yats. A Yat is like a crossbreed between NFTs and Emojis where a string of emojis can create a unique identity. Popular musicians like Justin Bieber, John Legend, AOKI, Kate Perry, and Snoop Dogg have also turned to NFTs.
