Germany: Bundesliga Ties Up with Topps to Launch NFT Collection

The German Bundesliga is the latest entity to join the NFT frenzy.

Topps Partners with German Bundesliga to Launch NFT Collection

The non-fungible token (NFT) euphoria seems to be giving no signs of simmering down as according to a recent report by Ledger Insights, collectible cards company Topps inked a deal with the German Bundesliga to launch an NFT collection to celebrate the 2021-22 season.

Notably, the said NFT collectibles will be minted on the high-performance Avalanche blockchain.

For those not in the know, the German Bundesliga is one of the most fan-centric sports leagues in the world in that football clubs in the league are not allowed to play if commercial investors have over 49% stake in any of the teams.

The egalitarian commercial nature of football clubs in the Bundesliga means that fans major a major say in the voting rights which, in turn, fosters a healthy environment for the success of a fan engagement solution like the one from Topps.

Per sources close to the matter, the said NFT collection will feature a whole host of digital renditions of star players, rising stars, and memorable moments of the season. Notably, the NFTs can be purchased on Topps’ NFT store via credit card. The NFT cards up for grabs range in terms of scarcity from Common to Legendary.

Commenting, Tobin Lent, VP & General Manager at Topps Digital Sports, noted:

“Our vision is to create a fun, easy-to-use collecting experience on the Blockchain that appeals to all fans whether they have experience with NFTs or not. It’s an extension of the pioneering vision we’ve had for digital collectibles since our mobile apps launched in 2012.”

Adding:

“We can’t wait to introduce this new collecting experience to Bundesliga fans around the world. Whether you support clubs like RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, VfL Wolfsburg or Eintracht Frankfurt or a fan of a particular player, the Bundesliga community will have the opportunity to collect their favorite stars as well as their favorite moments from the 2020-21 season, all in one collection.”

Building on the Avalanche Blockchain

As mentioned earlier, the Topps’ NFT collection is powered by the Avalanche blockchain.

In recent news, BTCManager reported that Avalanche had become the latest smart contract platform to issue the leading USD-pegged stablecoin, Tether (USDT).
