Block. One Partners Telos Foundation to Develop COVID-19 Testing App

Block. One, the firm behind the EOS blockchain network announced that it had awarded a grant worth $50,000 to distributed ledger technology (DLT) firm Genobank.io to enable the development of an app to help in COVID-19 testing. This, according to a report by Decrypt, April 30, 2020.

EOS Developer Aiding Development of COVID-19 Testing App

Block. One, in conjunction with the Telos Foundation, is developing an open-source COVID-19 testing app called Agerona to help tackle the pandemic that has brought life and the global economy to an absolute standstill.

The app, expected to be available in May, will reportedly allow users to source low-cost COVID-19 tests and then have their results available via the Telos blockchain. Notably, users can also choose to have their results shared with medical professionals and researchers via the app.

It’s worth highlighting that the grant for the development of Agerona was issued by Block. One’s EOS VC Grants program in conjunction with FinLab EOS VC and EOS Global.

Commenting on the development, Daniel Uribe, CEO, Genobank.io, said:

As an EOS VC Grants recipient, we are grateful to have the backing and support of Block.one’s venture arm EOS VC in aiding our efforts to anonymized DNA/RNA test kits (including coronavirus), while empowering patients and users to decide if they want their anonymized data to be available to the scientific community and help control the spread of the coronavirus and potentially contribute to treatment.

Block. One Fostering an Open-Source Development Ecosystem

Responsible for inarguably the largest initial coin offering (ICO) to date, Block. One is the company in-charge of the development of EOS blockchain.

The company has consistently found itself investing in promising startups and launching new cutting-edge services in the nascent cryptocurrency and blockchain space.

As reported by BTCManager in February 2019, Block. One’s EOS VC arm had made an investment in Platin, the Israel-based decentralized Proof-of-Location (PoL) protocol that had forked from the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain.

Similarly, in June 2019, Block. One unveiled ambitious plans to launch a social media platform dubbed Voice running on the EOS blockchain. The firm announced their desire to launch this as a way to allow content creators and users to benefit from their output instead of advertisers and corporations.
