Hublot Launches 200 Limited-Edition Watches Purchasable with Bitcoin
Hublot, announced on June 21st that it would release 200 new limited-edition luxury watches, available for purchase online using chosen cryptocurrencies through BitPay.
‘Crypto Friendly’ Hublot Limited -Edition Watches
The company said: ”Exclusively on our Hublot United States eBoutique; clients will be able to shop using select Cryptocurrencies with BitPay.” They added, ”Introducing the new BigBangUnico Essential Grey, a limited edition of 200 pieces solely available online on the e-commerce platform hublot.com.”
Ricardo Guadalupe, the Hublot CEO, said that selling the watches online would emphasize the importance of e-commerce. He believes that fans, potential clients, and collectors have an equal chance to obtain that magnificent and rare new model.
The new Big Bang Unico Essential Grey will be available exclusively on the watchmakers Hublot US eBoutique, for around $21,800 (20,700 euro). That is slightly more than one whole Bitcoin at the current market price of the flagship cryptocurrency.
The new chic, exclusive, and technical Big Bang Unico Essential Grey looks satin-finished. The iconic case extends to the bezel, hands, and dial, covered in Titanium thanks to the lightness of this metal.
From the world of Haute horology, Hublot can be considered one of the early adopters of cryptocurrencies. Back in 2018, the company introduced the Meca-10 P2P watch created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Bitcoin. It was sold at $25,000 and could only be bought using Bitcoin.
The Swiss firm later collaborated early this year with digital asset platform Ledger to introduce a special edition timepiece called Hublot Big Bang Unico Ledger. The wristwatch had a beautiful monochrome that looked to pay homage to Bitcoin, referring to electrum and cryptocurrencies.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Ledger was a game-changer in history. It was the first watch to fuse high-end crypto technology and fine watchmaking perfectly together.
Luxury Watchmakers Planning To Make Web3
The news follows another Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer who announced the rollout of cryptocurrency payments for all online purchases on its US website in May.
TAG Heuer noted that their crypto payment option is in partnership with BitPay. It will include 12 digital currencies, including Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, and five dollar-pegged stablecoins.
This company disclosed that its first foray into Web3 and the broader adoption of blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) would start with accepting payments through cryptocurrency.
Additionally, TAG Heuer has joined the NFT bandwagon and created a smartwatch feature that allows its users to show off their collections of NFTs. Users can pick the NFTs they wish to display on their wrist. This is enabled by a feature that allows the watch to safely connect to different crypto wallets like Ledger Live and Metamask.
The Swiss company highlighted that this move is part of the firms expanding digital ecosystem of apps and watch faces. A team of in-house developers creates these watches bearing the brand’s trademark design signatures.
