The Democratization of Fashion

Some brands are leading something new, exciting and much-needed in the fashion industry: the democratization of fashion. What exactly does it mean to democratize fashion, why could that revolutionize the industry, and why is it important? 

The Problem 

The way that the traditional fashion industry is set up makes it very difficult for creative talent to be seen and make a living. Fashion designers find themselves bound within an industry that seems rigid, with the same downsides and upsides being replicated year after year. The industry is also somewhat individualistic: beyond being the sole creator of garments, fashion designers also take up a range of other tasks like marketing, having to find creative means to advertise and sell their work. Doing these other tasks drains energy that could be used to do what creators truly love and benefits the fashion industry: to be creative and continue creating and refining designs. There is no simple, clear-cut and viable method of selling the fashion items that they have created, and they often have to uncover this process alone with several roadblocks. But it doesn’t have to be this way. 

The Solution 

Some brands are turning towards new technologies like blockchain to address some of these issues and enhance the process of designing, producing and selling fashion items. Faith Tribe’s Designer Studio will enable designers to create digital and physical designs for fashion items and outfits. All of their designs will be backed by NFT technology, which is important for authenticating the link between the creator and the design and limiting the potential for undetected plagiarism by other people and brands. Too often today, powerful designers and brands copy styles by lesser-known creators, which NFT technology can help avoid and better empower designers. 

Faith Tribe’s platform fosters democracy in several ways. Faith Tribe is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), meaning that the network is community-owned and operated. All holders of Faith Tribe’s token will have a say in the platform’s design, governance and future, with the power in their hands to collectively alter the platform in the way that they deem best. Contributors gain more governance power by creating value and contributing to the development of the network. The democratic elements of the platform will empower creators.
