Goliath Ventures hit by SEC, CFTC in $425M crypto case

Goliath Ventures and founder Christopher Delgado face parallel civil actions from two U.S. market regulators, adding to a federal criminal case in which Delgado has already pleaded guilty.

Summary
  • SEC says Goliath Ventures raised at least $425 million from more than 1,300 investors through offerings.
  • CFTC says about 1,600 customers contributed at least $397 million for purported crypto asset trading.
  • Christopher Delgado admitted causing at least $250 million in losses after pleading guilty in June.
  • Delgado agreed to settle the SEC case, while the CFTC seeks restitution, penalties and bans.
  • Federal prosecutors now list Delgado’s sentencing for October 21 as the criminal investigation continues separately.

The SEC and CFTC filed complaints on Aug. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The SEC said Goliath Ventures raised at least $425 million from more than 1,300 investors between January 2023 and January 2026. The CFTC separately said about 1,600 customers contributed at least $397 million after being solicited for crypto trading involving Bitcoin and Ether. Both agencies allege customer money was not used as represented.

Why Goliath Ventures now faces both SEC and CFTC cases

According to the SEC, Goliath Ventures offered participation in purported crypto liquidity pools and promised monthly distributions of 3% to 10%. The regulator alleges no investor funds or crypto assets were placed into those pools. It also alleges Delgado diverted at least $51 million for homes, luxury vehicles, a yacht and travel while later investor money funded earlier payouts.

The SEC charged Goliath Ventures and Delgado with registration and antifraud violations. Delgado agreed to a bifurcated settlement, subject to court approval. The court will later determine disgorgement, prejudgment interest and any civil penalty. The settlement would also restrict Delgado from most securities transactions and bar him from acting as, or associating with, a broker or dealer.

The CFTC says Goliath Ventures fraudulently solicited customers for digital commodity trading and falsely guaranteed principal or profits. It is seeking restitution, disgorgement, civil monetary penalties, trading and registration bans, and a permanent injunction.

Taken together, the filings add a U.S. policy angle. A 2025 DOJ memo ended what it called “regulation by prosecution,” but specifically directed prosecutors to prioritize schemes that victimize digital asset investors. It also instructed prosecutors to favor charges such as wire fraud when an alternative would avoid litigating whether a digital asset is a security or commodity. Delgado’s criminal case uses wire fraud and money laundering charges, while the SEC and CFTC are separately applying their civil authorities.

Delgado’s guilty plea adds a separate criminal case

Delgado pleaded guilty on June 30 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors said at least $400 million was paid to Goliath Ventures, and Delgado admitted causing at least $250 million in investor losses.

As crypto.news previously reported in its guilty plea coverage, Delgado agreed to forfeit eight real properties, 11 vehicles, 30 watches, more than 50 luxury bags and wallets, at least 29 pieces of jewelry, and seized bank and cryptocurrency accounts. Federal officials are also pursuing civil forfeiture of property allegedly bought with investor funds.

Scrutiny has extended beyond Goliath. In related coverage, investors sued JPMorgan Chase, alleging hundreds of millions of dollars flowed through accounts connected to the company. Those claims remain separate from the government actions against Delgado and Goliath Ventures.

What happens next for Delgado and Goliath investors

The Justice Department’s case page now lists Delgado’s sentencing for Oct. 21, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell in Orlando. The updated date replaces the Oct. 8 sentencing date announced when prosecutors disclosed the guilty plea in June.

The criminal investigation remains open, and federal investigators say they are continuing to locate property held by Delgado or others that can be traced to Goliath Ventures proceeds. The SEC must obtain court approval for Delgado’s settlement and later seek a determination of monetary remedies. The CFTC case will proceed.

For investors, asset recovery is now a central issue. The Justice Department has said forfeiture can preserve proceeds for victim compensation when federal law authorizes it. No final recovery amount has been announced.
